Photography is an art. As an artist, the photographer seeks to make his pictures as visually pleasing as possible.

The pictures taken straight from the camera are great, but they have even greater potential. The colors could be more vibrant. The lighting could be more aesthetic. Distracting elements could be removed. Etc.
